Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre celebrates their 10th anniversary season with a tour to the Arab World and Asia this Fall.

This October Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre embarks on it’s fourth international tour in ten years, with performances and workshops spanning from Palestine to Japan, October 9 through 25. A highlight of the trip includes a closing-night performance of bound at the world-renowned Seoul International Dance Festival on October 18, 2015.

After teaching and performing throughout the Arab World, Europe, and United States for the past ten years, we are excited to present our work to audiences in Asia for the first time! And we need your help to get there.

We have already raised half the cost of this large-scale production. WE NEED YOUR HELP to raise the reminaing $17,000 to make this tour possible. We have launched an Indiegogo campaign in support of this extraordinary project. Please visit our campaign page or read on below to learn more.

bound (v. restrict; n. a territory limit or boundary; n. a leap onward or upward; ; adj. destined, sure, certain)

bound is an evening length multimedia performance created by Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre Artistic Director Samar Haddad King, that tells the universal story of people who are restricted by society, politics, geography or gender.

Situated between mobile planes that act as buildings, borders, and projection surfaces, the seven performers of bound are continuously confronted by an evolving landscape of boundaries that tests their physical and emotional limits. Layered over and between the live action, the story of two lovers separated by circumstance unfolds via Skype. Set to an original score by boikutt, this production examines what it means to be bound: to a place, to a person, to an ideology, to noise, to silence.

Created across continents, this performance of bound features an international cast from Japan, Palestine and the United States, and represents ten years of Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre’s dedication to transcending boundaries through international communication and cross cultural collaboration. Learn more about our artists and tour activities on our campaign page.

We hope that you will join us and our broad international network of supporters who believe in art that addresses and transcends geo-political divisions with a donation to our Indiegogo campaign today. We need to raise $17,000 before September 24th in order to make this tour possible.
