In 2010, YSDT performed in 6 cities, 8 venues and conducted a 2 week residency with local artists and musicians creating a new performance, and 3 additional workshops. Performances were of The Store and a Children’s performance. The performance began with skirt dance, a journey across time and space to the far reaches of the imagination, and get swept up in the colorful voyage of five women who are bound together– both literally by the trains of their flowing skirts and emotionally by the shared thread of human experience– in Skirt Dance. Here the dancers’ skirts magically unfurl, twist and intertwine to create visually stunning moments that make us realize the power of relationship. From the world of whirling women. Ramblings of a Young Girl dives into a vision of fantasy and hope, and romp around with this spunky girl who bounds across the stage from one playful thought to another, reminding us of the uninhibited spontaneity of youth. Through smiles and pouts, successes and frustrations, sheer bewilderment and undeniable tenacity, her adventures take us on a roller coaster ride where nothing is certain and anything is possible. In the final offering, 25 Steps, human emotions become a wonderland for our exploration. We all worry, we all rejoice, we all fear, we all dream. With the use of only 25 steps the dancers demonstrate the countless hues that can paint the landscape of our experience, highlighting situations that are both harmonious and chaotic. Set to the beat of Palestinian Hip Hop artists we see how this driving rhythm unites a diverse group of dancers in every step that they take and every emotion they feel.
