FROM THE U.S TO ASIA WITH A SINGLE BOUND
Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre announces 10th Anniversary Season
Yaa Samar! Dance Theatre (YSDT) – an independent contemporary dance company based in New York City and Palestine – celebrates its 10th anniversary season with the performance of bound at the Seoul International Dance Festival, taking place on Sunday, October 18, 5:00pm at Sogang University’s Mary Hall in Seoul, South Korea. Additional performances are slated for Friday, October 9, 8:00pm, at the Mahmoud Darwish Cultural Center inNazareth and Saturday, October 10, 8:00pm at El-Hakawati Palestinian National Theater in Jerusalem.
Conceived across continents, and created in four languages, the upcoming tour of bound features an international cast of American, Japanese, and Palestinian performers, representing YSDT’s unwavering dedication to transnational collaboration and cross-cultural dialogue. The seven performers of bound are confronted by an ever-evolving landscape, fraught with boundaries that continuously test their physical and emotional limits. Set to an original score by boikutt, this evening length production tells the universal story of people who are restricted by society, politics, geography or gender.
In addition to these performances, YSDT Artistic Director Samar Haddad King and Associate Director Zoe Rabinowitz will offer public workshops at the Seoul International Dance Festival (Seoul, South Korea) on October 16; Chonbuk National University (Jeonju, South Korea) October 20-21; and Kobe Art Village Center (Kobe, Japan) October 23-25, 2015.
